Rabbit Trails

So often, when reading the Word, one thing will jump out at me immediately. It’s as if I recognize a phrase, a word, or a sentence that the Father has been preparing me to see – and I find that the more I listen for His voice, the quicker I am to recognize it in instances like this.

Today, that was Psalm 66:10.

For you, O God, have tested us; you have tried us as silver is tried.

This goes on to speak of suffering, but not with a “woe is me” attitude, but a “He is working on me” attitude.

Trying us as silver is tried.

Silver is a precious metal and has been from the beginning of time. But it has to go through a purification process – and that takes time. If you want the true and precious silver, you have to burn away all of the impurities. All of those things which are preventing that lump of substance from being pure, clean, silver.

I found a wonderful illustration on the internet but was unable to find a source as it is listed on many websites word for word. It tells the story on my heart perfectly.

As she watched the silversmith, he held a piece of silver over the fire and let it heat up. He explained that in refining silver, one needed to hold the silver in the middle of the fire where the flames were hottest as to burn away all the impurities.

The woman thought about God holding us in such a hot spot; then she thought again about the verse that says: ‘He sits as a refiner and purifier of silver.’ (Malachi 3:3)

She asked the silversmith if it was true that he had to sit there in front of the fire the whole time the silver was being refined.

The man answered that yes, he not only had to sit there holding the silver, but he had to keep his eyes on the silver the entire time it was in the fire. If the silver was left a moment too long in the flames, it would be destroyed.

The woman was silent for a moment.
Then she asked the silversmith, ‘How do you know when the silver is fully refined?’

He smiled at her and answered, ‘Oh, that’s easy — when I see my image in it.’

My prayer for us today:

May we bless the Father, for his grace, love, and careful attention as He works to refine us so that we are able to reflect His image.
I pray that, as we read His word, we give it full authority in our lives and hold Him and His teachings in their proper place of reverence, above all others.
As we go about our days and advance in our years, may His reflection shine brighter in our own each and every day.
May YHWH bless the reading of His word!

It IS a GOOD Morning!

Test everything, hold tight to what is good.~ 1 Thess 5:21

We are saved by Grace alone: Obedience is not the root of our salvation, it is the fruit!

May YHWH bless the reading of His Word!
