The Importance Of Servant Leadership

In Matthew 20 Jesus told us that He did not come to be served but to serve.  His example of love, compassion, and kindness has always been the model of how we are to live. And nowhere do we find a more fitting example of servant leadership than in the life of our messiah.

To practice servant leadership is to put the needs of others ahead of your own. Your focus is on the growth of the community around you and all its members. Any influence you have is used to encourage and enrich the lives of those around you.

But more than that, a servant leader is able to see the potential in others and lead them in such a way that allows their talents to be utilized so that they grow in their ability AND in confidence.

So, what does servant leadership look like in action? Well It starts with humility.   Rather than desiring to be seen as important, a servant leader understands the importance of others. They are willing to invest time, wisdom, and influence into those around them.  It’s about lifting others up, supporting them, and helping them grow into the best versions of themselves.

And guess what? You don’t have to be a CEO or a pastor to be a servant leader. It’s something anyone can embrace, no matter your role or position in life. Whether you’re a teacher, a parent, or just a friend, you have the power to make a difference.

Servant leadership isn’t just a nice idea— It’s a way of life rooted in love, compassion, and selflessness. And when we embrace it wholeheartedly, we not only honor the teachings of Jesus but also create a brighter, more compassionate world for everyone.

Jesus did not come to be served but to serve. Let’s follow His example in our service of others. Until next time, go forth and serve Him well!
