Have you ever doubted something the Father told you because it didn’t happen quickly or easily?
I’m not sure where we get the idea that if we are walking in the will of the Father, then we won’t have any doubts or problems. But this simply isn’t true. Sometimes the things that the Father has us doing are hard and time-consuming, and because we are dealing with the world’s ways, they can also be complicated.
Many years ago, a few of our friends decided to move to Costa Rica. When they announced it to us, my husband looked at me and said, I think the Father is also telling us that we’re supposed to go.
Y’all, I felt like someone had punched me in the gut.
The idea of moving out of the country had me terrified, and I didn’t see how we could ever make it happen.
I felt a little like Gideon as I began to pray for the Father to confirm this for me. What I needed was peace and understanding and for the Father to show me that we were supposed to go, and so they moved, and we stayed.
After they moved, we visited, and as I looked around this country – I knew.
When we got back home, we began the massive task of selling our things and getting our house ready to sell. Of course, we expected that now that the Father had confirmed this for me, it would happen quickly.
But it didn’t.
As the months slowly passed, I wondered if it wasn’t happening because I had needed reassurance from the Father. Sometimes, one of us would doubt that we had heard the Father correctly, but each time this happened, the other was strong and reassuring, knowing that we just had to be patient. It was so hard to keep the faith, but we continued to remind each other that the Father had a plan.
The only thing we had to do was walk by faith. Definitely, more difficult than it sounds.
Our minds can be the adversary’s battleground. When things don’t happen in the way or time that we think they should, doubt creeps in and can undermine everything that you know is coming. So we must start taking our thoughts captive now; if we don’t, we won’t know how to function on the battlefield when the big things come.
A year later
A year after we came home from our visit to Costa Rica, the Father moved us there. It was probably a blink of an eye for Him, but for us, it felt like a long road.
There are many lessons that the Father taught me during our 5-year journey in Costa Rica, but the first one was that He is always faithful to do what He says He will do; we have to be patient and walk in faith.
I wait for the Lord, my soul does wait, And in His word do I hope. Psalm 130:5
