Calling Out Kings (Pt. 1): In Hiding

Therefore they inquired further of the Lord, “Has the man come here yet?” So the Lord said, “Behold, he is hiding himself by the baggage”  (1 Sam 10:22)

We live in a world that is in desperate need of the sons and daughter’s of God.  In a time where we have exchanged goodness for evil, right for wrong, we must have voices crying even in the wilderness, declaring the Word of God.  The shift in an increasingly large portion of the population is to view the Word of God as some fairy tale, some book of myths with little or no truth.  To say that this is dangerous is akin to saying that fire is warm.  The world needs truth, an absolute standard by which to gauge its actions, but those who know the truth, who have been freed by it, are curiously absent, conspicuously silent.  Why?  Because we are in hiding.

Having adopted an overly-tolerant worldview, or having been shouted down one time too often, we have opted to hide in plain sight, to blend into our surroundings rather than to shine as we were commanded to do.  And we have become increasingly proficient at it.  We hide in our places of business, pulling our faith out only on weekends.  We hide in our homes, allowing the television to provide our families with their instruction rather than turning to the Word.  We hide at the ball parks, shouting and stomping while the Kingdom begs for us to step forward.  Like Saul, prior to being anointed king of Israel, we have hidden ourselves among the baggage, among the trappings of this world, refusing to step forward into the place that God has reserved for us, while all around us people are being destroyed by their lack of knowledge, by our unwillingness to speak out.

Both the good and the bad news is this:  God sees us, and he is calling us out.  He sees us seated comfortably in the break room, silent when we should be shouting.  He sees us, sinking into our recliners hiding from our responsibility.  He sees us as we place more emphasis on distractions than we do our destiny.  He sees us, and the time for hiding is over, the time where we can remain silent has ended.  He sees us, and he is pointing right at us.  We have the ability and the authority to move mountains for the kingdom; we have the power and the voice to impact our communities, and we have the responsibility to carry Christ to every person that we meet and to put to words the hope that we have in in us.  Take off the mask.  Step out of hiding.  Speak. Shout.  If God is for us, who can be against us?

“You are the light of the world. A city situated on a hill cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and puts it under a basket, but rather on a lamp stand, and it gives light for all who are in the house.  In the same way, let your light shine before men, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven”  (Matthew 5:14-16, HCSB).
