Rabbit Trails

In reading the Psalms, have you ever stopped to think of what it must have been like to be David?

He constantly speaks of enemies spreading lies about him, lying in wait to kill him, stirring up strife, and seeking to destroy him. He often alternates between begging for help and praising the Father. He has such low lows that lead to incredibly high highs, and many times these occur within breaths of each other. I can’t imagine having to live in that level of stress each day.

Still, so many of us read David’s words of praise for our Father and feel the beautiful truth of them straight to our soul. He artfully describes our Father’s majesty, praises His loving protection, and expounds upon His character in a way only a person with an intimate relationship with the Father ever could. David inspires us! Chances are, there have been times in our lives when we felt called to praise the Father and chose to do so with David’s words, having no equal to them on our own.

But here is the thing: How do you grow a muscle? By using it.

David’s relationship with the Father was so deep, his trust so sure, and his faith so strong in part because the Father allowed David to have opportunities to grow in all these areas.  All the times in which David’s life was in danger allowed Him the opportunity to see, time and again, that YHWH would rescue him. All the times that people spoke slander against David and tried to stir up strife  against him allowed David the opportunity to trust more deeply in YHWH, and he saw that YHWH did indeed rescue him. All the the times the Father directed David gave him ample opportunities to choose to walk in obedience to the Father or to make the choice to disobey and walk in his own wisdom instead. David chose to obey.

…for you have been my help,
and in the shadow of your wings i will sing for joy.
m soul clings to you;
your right hand upholds me.
Psalms 63:7-8

For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence,
    for my hope is from him.
He only is my rock and my salvation,
    my fortress; I shall not be shaken.
On God rests my salvation and my glory;
    my mighty rock, my refuge is God.

Trust in him at all times, O people;
    pour out your heart before him;
    God is a refuge for us.

Psalm 62:5-8

We are living in some trying and uncertain times. This is a time to follow David’s example.

It is a time to flex our faith muscle. To work out our obedience muscle. And to walk with the strength of our trust muscle. David’s closeness to the Father was so great because when he encountered pain, anxiety, fear, and battles in his life he took them directly to the Father. He trusted in Him. He obeyed Him. He had faith.

Let us be found as David was, to be a person after YHWH’s own heart; to wholeheartedly seek, wholeheartedly trust, and wholeheartedly obey our Father in a trying time in which we need Him the most. When we ask the Father to save us in the battle, let us make sure we have positioned ourselves as a soldier who follows His commands.

Muscles are growing. The body is strengthening. The wheat is being separated from the chaff.

Lead on, Father. We will follow you.

Today we have a WONDERFUL chart to share that our Front Porch Fellowship Admin and Prayer Warrior Michele Harris shared. It lists each Psalm and tells the events that were going on when it was believed to have been written. I know you will find it as fascinating as I do. Test everything, hold tight to what is good.~ 1 Thess 5:21

We are saved by Grace alone: Obedience is not the root of our salvation, it is the fruit!

May YHWH bless the reading of His Word!
