Christy shares a secret that is true of everyone you will ever meet, including yourself.

Recently I had the honor of giving a commencement address to a graduating class of high school seniors. As part of my address I shared a pretty big secret. Now I introduced this by telling the graduates that there was one secret everyone had been keeping from them and that this was true for every person they had ever met or will ever meet, including their parents, grandparents, teachers, and even future bosses. It’s true for us, too.
Needless to say, they were intrigued as you may be as well. So I’m going to share it with you today. Here’s the secret.
Ready?
We’re all winging it.
We’re all winging it.
No one has all the answers.
No one knows exactly what to do in all situations. We’re all, every single one of us, just doing the best we can and hopefully learning as we go along. Did you exhale in relief when you heard me say that? Because it brings me great peace to consider it.
If you’re like me you may have spent a good bit of your life thinking some folks had all the answers and somehow you were the only one who didn’t. I want to assure, today, that this has never been the case.
We’ve all been winging it all along. As I told the graduates:You’re going to find yourself in situations where you don’t know what you’re doing and I want you to know that this doesn’t make you a failure, it just makes you one of us.
Then I offered them this as further comfort:
“And when you realize that we’re all winging it, when you join us in doing the best you can but still messing up from time to time, sometimes in very big – very unintended ways, it becomes a lot easier to forgive and show grace to others.”
We are so grateful for the word of God. For our deepening relationship with His instruction and the blessing of His guidance, but it can still be a struggle when it comes to applying some of that wisdom to our lives today and we will inevitably have missteps.
Some days we will represent Him better than others. Some days we will be downright disappointed in our performance as a representative of the Kingdom. And somedays, we will find ourselves deeply disappointed, maybe even hurt or angry, at how our brethren treat or speak to others in His name. And not just individually but as a body of believers, we will have triumphs and we will have failures. And the best that we can do is help one another when we falter, dust ourselves off, and step right back in the direction of the Father’s leading. Anytime you realize you’ve made a mistake and fallen into sin of any sort, the best thing to do is to repent, turn back to the Father, and do the next right thing.
We’re all winging it. And we could all use a little extra grace.
And I want to assure you that The more you show it to others, the more you can expect to be shown to you.
