Good Morning, Siblings!

Rabbit Trails

Galatians 4:10 makes more sense in the context of Galatians 4:8, where we see that these are pagan days and times being observed, not the appointed times of YHWH.

Formerly, when you did not know God, you were enslaved to those that by nature are not gods. But now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, how can you turn back again to the weak and worthless elementary principles of the world, whose slaves you want to be once more? You observe days and months and seasons and years! I am afraid I may have labored over you in vain. Galatians 4:8-11

For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” But if you bite and devour one another, watch out that you are not consumed by one another. Galatians 5:13-15

We’ve discussed this many times before but I’d be remiss if I didn’t elaborate as a refresher. If we love one another as we love ourself, we are fulfilling the commandments which govern how we are to love our neighbor. We will strive to obey all of the other laws governing this relationship if we simply do this one thing. You can read my more in depth article about this here.

Further, we have a great deal of freedom and it is hoped, desired, and even expected that we will use that to bring honor to the Father. The choice is ours to make but as the saying goes: We are free to choose, but we are not free from the consequences of our choice.

But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. -Galatians 5:16

For further explanation of what it means to walk in the spirit and be a part of this covenant, see Jeremiah 31:33

In Galatians 5:18-21 Paul goes on to relay the things we will not do if we are walking in the spirit, but that are practices of those who walk in flesh. Consequently, we could play Facebook Bingo with this list and we’d probably all have a winning card by breakfast: Impurity, idolatry, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy…

Remember, walking in the Spirit means that the Holy Spirit is dwelling within us, causing us to walk in obedience to YHWH. If we are walking in the Spirit, YHWH’s law is written on our hearts so that our natural inclination and desire is to obey it.

So when you feel that desire to not just read the Word but alter your life so that you are living according to that Word, that’s the Holy Spirit within you, steering you onto that narrow path laid out by the Father.

Galatians 5:25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in the step with the spirit.

This is probably obvious but it makes a huge difference just in case it isn’t. The word here for Spirit is referencing the Ruach or Holy Spirit. Walking in step with the Holy Spirit is most certainly a Jeremiah 31:33 move.

Galatians 6:1 Leads with talk of a brother in the faith walking in sin. What is sin? See 1 John 3:4. Seriously, look that one up. If anyone ever asks you what is sin, you should be able to immediately recite that verse. If you ask me what sin is, I would immediately respond “Sin is transgression of the law”.

I close today with Galatians 6:7-10

Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith. Galatians 6:7-10

Armor up, siblings. The Father is moving and we await His command!

And with that, we have completed another book.  Rak Chazak!

Test everything, hold tight to what is good.~ 1 Thess 5:21

We are saved by Grace alone: Obedience is not the root of our salvation, it is the fruit!

May YHWH bless the reading of His Word!
