Rabbit Trails

Proverbs 22:1 A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, and favor is better than silver or gold.

The key here is: A good name in whose eyes? Of course, we are speaking of how the Father views our good name. Also, The Hebrew word for favor here is chen and it is often used to mean grace as in being shown grace from YHWH.

Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way that he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it.

Most of us have thought about this in relation to our children but have you ever thought about it in relation to you? We are His children. We are being trained up now so that when we are old we can help to train up other Believers in His truth.

My favorite rendition of this verse is “Train up a child in the way that they should go – and make sure you go that way, too!”

He who loves purity of heart, and whose speech is gracious, will have the king as his friend. Proverbs 22:11

I read this and immediately imagined the King as our Messiah. Doesn’t that make your heart smile? He who loves purity of heart and who has gracious speech, will have Messiah as our friend.

Y’all, what if Messiah was your friend on Facebook? If you knew that He was going to scroll through your page this evening and see everything you posted, would you go clean it up real quick or would you be okay with what is there right now? Would He see you sharing slander on politicians you don’t like, arguing with folks over things of no eternal value, and stirring up dissent because you were frustrated or angry about something? Or would He see you seeking to bring honor and glory to His kingdom? Because there are no part time citizens of that kingdom. Either we are all in or we are all out. Our Facebook pages will often let us know where we reside. And He actually does see our Facebook pages. Daily.

And just like yesterday, we are told not to even associate with people like that: Make no friendship with a man given to anger, nor go with a wrathful man lest you learn his ways Proverbs 22:24-25

I’ve had to adjust my friends in real life and online to line up with this and I can fully testify that the Father is right (as is His way) that even association with folks like that will cause us to become like that. We are not above it. If we want to glorify Him, our inner circle of friends should be people who glorify Him.

Proverbs 23:9 Do not speak in the hearing of a fool, for he will despise the good sense of your words.

I call this “hanging onto your pearls.” I know it is exciting to see that the Father’s ways are so far and above our own and His wisdom is surely worth sharing, but to share it with a person who has shut their ears to it for a time will only end in strife. Just love ’em where they are, hang onto your pearls, be a safe place, and they’ll come seek you out when they are ready.

I’m going to end my notes there and get to working on a meal for this family the Father blessed me with.

Test everything, hold tight to what is good.~ 1 Thess 5:21

We are saved by Grace alone: Obedience is not the root of our salvation, it is the fruit!

May YHWH bless the reading of His Word!
